State or federal grants for first time home buyers for SC?
Anyone know any websites where I can get info on state or federal grants for first time home buyers for SC? I am looking for grants….not lenders. I already have a lender….however I will need some additional money for down payment, closing cost, moving expenses, etc…..
Yes, SC has programs available through the South Carolina State Housing Agency. Check out the link below to see if you can apply or qualify for their programs.
Good luck!

I received 10,000 as a grant for a downpayment for my first house. I found out about the program through my lender. Only a few lenders are knowledge enough to know about these programs. Shop around with different lenders. The way I found my lender was when I went to look at a new housing development that was being built for "working class/first time home buyers" the realtor there refered me to a lender that deals a lot with first time home buyers and was very helpful.
In my case I received 10,000 to use as a downpayment. The terms of this bond loan was that if I rented the house, moved or refinanced then I’d have to pay back the 10,000. Other than that it was free money. You need to ask these kinds of questions if you want to do this. I live in Florida so I can’t tell you where to go to get these other than shop around with lenders. Ask your realtor if they know of any lenders who work a lot with first time buyers.
