Grants are a type of student aid that is awarded by the government. Grants for college students do not have to be repaid.

Grants are based upon financial need, as calculated by the federal aid program. The first step in applying for government grants is by completing the FAFSA.

Of course every student and parent would rather receive grants instead of loans, since they do not have to be repaid. So the student hopes to see a grant award when the results are returned from the application.

There are a few things to be aware of, however, when expecting a grant. The funds available for grants are limited, therefore the grant will not usually fully fund educational expenses. If the student is planning on attending a community college where tuition rates are lower, it is possible that grants will cover a greater percentage of the tuition and fees.

The second thing to be aware of is that when the need analysis is done by the government or school, the expected contribution of the parent is usually higher than in reality what is possible for most families. This expected contribution effects the amount available to the student for grants.

Another significant factor is that if the parent or guardian claims the student as a dependent on income tax returns, this effects the amount of aid available to the student. In general, a student who is ‘independent’ of the parents as far as the tax law goes, will receive more in financial aid awards.

First year students may find that they receive less grant awards than they do in subsequent college years.

Federal government student loans are one of the many ways to fund your school tuition. The expense of further education sometimes seems out of reach, considering there are additional fees to be taken care of. Besides the tuition, you have lab fees, school books that must be purchased, board and lodging, and other miscellaneous fees i.e. health insurance, transport. This all adds up especially if you are at a school away from home.

There are other options for student funding available besides a government student loan, private student loans or at the same token alternative student loans. The other student aid options available are scholarships and grants. The great things about college or university scholarships are that you are not required to reimburse the expenses that you have incurred during your years at school. The funds are allocated to you as if these are your own funds. This is a valuable form of student funding especially for students who cannot afford to obtain US government student loans or non government student loans and who desire to earn a degree or diploma yet do not have the financial capacity to do so.

Compare this to other forms of financial assistance such as student loans or federal government loans and you are definitely on a good wicket if you can secure a grant or scholarship. Since grants are especially meant for the financially unprivileged, certain grants exist for underrepresented minority students. There are also some cases where the grant money is exchanged for professional services after graduating. This is common to those students taking up health care professions. The major objective for this is to keep trained professionals in medically underprivileged regions.

This is where acquiring a federal student loan differs from grants; you have a choice of building your career wherever you choose to. The difference between grants, scholarships, student loans and federal government student loans is that grants and scholarships are given to the patron without any expectation of repayment. In this case a grant is a monetary gift from a sponsor. Scholarships on the other hand, are awarded according to the academic merit of the student although it is also a monetary gift.

Start your research while you are still in high school, it is better to apply early as this will give you a head start, since this will allow you to plan your future studies and if you are not fortunate enough to gain a scholarship it will still give you enough time to apply for a government student loan or private student loan.

On the radio this morning, in St. Louis, I heard that you can get federal or state grants (NOT a loan – they clarified) for home repairs by looking at economic grants. The woman said that the government has these grants because they provide work to people and improve communities. She said you don’t have to have a low-income and that the only requirement is that you live in the house for at least two years (or move out within two years, something like that).

Education, beyond that offered by public school systems can be a bit expensive. As a result, most students might need some amount of external funding to further their higher education plans. Grants and scholarships may help cover a part of the expenses, but then that privilege is available only for a cream of students.

Not everybody qualifies for grants and scholarships. Student loans help to solve this incongruence by offering a level playing field for all the student classes. A variety of student loans exists both federal and private and for a prospective student, it is just about finding a scheme that best suits their requirements and expenses.

Student Loans, as mentioned already, are either federal or state funded, or those offered by private parties and non-profit private institutions. Starting with the former, the Federal Student Aid or FAFSA can be applied online, and the process is quite easy as well.

Another thing to consider is that the applicant must provide accurate and genuine information while filling out the application. Also, it is advisable to apply for Federal student aid as early as possible, after January 1st.

Another useful federal financial aid package is the Federal Parents Loan for Undergraduate Students or PLUS that considers the good credit ratings of the parents in exchange of financial help for their children.

These low interest loans cover everything from tuition fees and books to housing, library, and supplies. PLUS also can be applied online by filling out the necessary formalities.

Private student loans, on the other hand, are offered by private banks or other financial institutions, and do not have any federal government involvement in the entire process. This type of loans are issued for both undergraduate and graduate students and most avail them to cover the expenses that cannot be otherwise paid by federal aids.

But, unlike federal student loans, where the applicant can know before hand if they qualify for the loan, private student loans do not offer any prior hints and the final approval is solely based on the credit review of the applicant or applicants parents by the lender. If the credit rating of the applicant is not acceptable for the bank, they will reject the application then and there.

One more aspect about private student loans is that it is issued in a first come, first served basis, unlike the federal student loans that is given away on applicants needs. So, if you are planning to apply for a private student loan, start reasonably early.

The best place to look for private student loans is the web. There are many private banks out there offering student loan schemes, hence, it is advisable that a prospective applicant may perform some research and comparison game before choosing the one scheme that suits his her needs requirements fully.

Taking references from previous borrowers is also a good option. Finally, before submitting the application, make it a point to read the fine print thoroughly. This helps solve a lot of technical problems that could arise at a later stage.

When deciding upon a loan its important to understand the difference between types of interest rate repayments. There are two specific types of repayment options and its important to factor these into your final payment schedule.

Subsidized loans are loans which generally have some or all of the interest paid by someone other than the borrower. This type of loan is generally used whilst the student is still in school. Examples of this type of loan would include the Subsidized Stafford Loan and Perkins Loan.

Unsubsidized Loans are loans which accrue interest from the day that the loan is disbursed to the borrower (or their school). Although the loan may be completely deferred (Example: you dont make payments for a period of time) and you may not be currently making payments the interest will still be accruing on the loan amount. Examples of unsubsidized loans include the Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, Parent PLUS Loan, private alternative student loans, and student loan consolidations.

You will need to make the decision as to which repayment schedule you make at the disbursement point of the loan. I would always counsel that it is better to struggle and slowly pay off the loan interest rather than deferring all payments until graduation. Often graduates are forced into bankruptcy due to deferred student loans.

Ultimately, you have alot of research to complete before diving into the application stage. Do take your time and establish exactly what you are seeking as it makes it all the easier when dealing with the respective loan companies.

Hopefully your loan process will be as painless and easy as your studies shall be.

After exhausting all forms of “free money” for college, such as scholarships and federal grants, the next best thing for students are federal student loans (http://www.nextstudent.com) to help them pay for school. Federal Stafford student loans have low interest rates and are more appealing when they feature benefits and incentives, according to NextStudent, the Phoenix-based premier education funding company.

It is becoming much more difficult for some students to imagine their dream of a higher education, as college costs increasingly are on the rise along with the cost of tuition and other expenses. NextStudent believes that student loans (http://www.nextstudent.com/student-loans/student-loans.asp) should not be an extra burden to already cash-strapped college students, so the company offers incentives to make payments easier and more manageable.

. Federal Stafford loans do not require collateral or a credit check and payment is postponed until after graduation. There are no guarantee fees and students do not need a co-signer, these student loans have a low interest rate of 6.8 percent and are secured by the government.

NextStudent’s Stafford Student Loan Incentives

NextStudent has professionally trained Education Finance Advisers who know all the ins and outs of the numerous student loan programs offered. They are available to assist student borrowers with all their questions about the Federal Stafford Student Loan program. Through NextStudent’s Student Loan program, student borrowers receive:

·A .375 percent reduction on their interest rate when they make payments through Auto-Debit
·A 2 percent interest rate reduction: 1 percent after the first 12 months of consecutive on-time payments, with an additional 1 percent rate reduction after 24 months of consecutive on-time payments
·A 2 percent upfront cash rebate, whereby borrowers receive the full amount they qualify for at disbursement. Borrowers must participate in Auto-Debit and make one on-time monthly payment to qualify.

Types of Stafford Student Loans

There are two types of Stafford student loans: subsidized and unsubsidized. To qualify for a subsidized Stafford student loan a student must show financial need. The government pays the interest while a student is in school and during grace periods and deferment. With unsubsidized Stafford student loans, students are responsible for the interest; however, payment is deferred until after graduation. All students are eligible for unsubsidized Stafford loans.

Eligibility

Federal Stafford loans are eligible for federal student loan consolidation (http://www.nextstudent.com/) . There are no prepayment penalties. Repayment typically starts six months after graduation. In addition, there are alternate available repayment options, including deferment and forbearance.

In order to be eligible for a federal Stafford student loan, borrowers must either be enrolled at least half time in a degree or certificate program, a citizen of the United States or an eligible noncitizen, current on existing federal education loans, and a high school graduate or have an equivalency diploma.

Federal Stafford student loans are affordable and can help students get through college without the worry of paying back student loans until after graduation. NextStudent’s program offers a variety of incentives to make these student loans even more affordable and manageable. There is no reason not to take advantage of a great deal that helps students obtain their dream of a college education.

NextStudent offers one-on-one education finance counseling and has a portfolio of highly competitive education lending products and services including an online scholarship search engine, low and no-cost federal student loans ( http://www.nextstudent.com/ ), parent loans, private loans, student loan consolidation programs (http://www.nextstudent.com/consolidation_loans/consolidation_loans.asp) and college savings plans.

The NextStudent Scholarship Search Engine, one of the nation’s oldest and largest scholarship search engines, is updated daily, available free of charge, completely private and represents 2.4 million scholarships worth $3.4 billion.

In today’s demanding economy, many families find themselves in need of an extra income. Even if both parents work, the income is often insufficient to cover either basic needs or extra wants.

Even when one or both parents in a household earn an income sufficient enough to cover both wants and needs, we all have unexpected expenses that occur during life’s journey.

For example, a child may be entering college soon and the college fund is not quite large enough. Or, a family member must be hospitalized, creating large bills and potentially a loss of income.

When these and other situations arise and the need for money is greater than usual, many people have turned to working at home after working hours. Grant writing is a frequent choice of those working from home to earn extra income.

Many people who have not explored the concept of grant writing believe that grant writing is simply for nonprofit businesses and schools who either do not have adequate funds or are in need of money to fund special projects.

Fortunately, for those who want to work from home, that belief about grant writing could not be farther from the truth.

Grant writing is a new trend among those working from home, and it has seen a tremendous boom in the last few years. There are many grants available for personal use that most people are completely unaware of. The sources of these grants are the government and private foundations. The money used for the grants is your tax money.

Grants in the amount of $500 to $500,000 are being given away at an alarming rate. Both state and federal agencies offer these grants to those who work from home.

At this point, many may be wondering the motive behind giving away money to individuals who write grants from home. Foundations and governments are not in the habit of giving out money due to the goodness of their hearts.

Instead, governments, and private foundations offering these grants, do benefit in one crucial way: Tax write-offs. When governments and private foundations approve grant requests, they are able to take the grant amount off of their profits for the year, meaning they are not required to pay taxes on the amount of the grant.

In addition, the government is encouraged to fulfill grant requests because the additional funds in the economy create additional jobs. The new employees are often able to cease dependency on government assistance programs.

Another reason private foundations offer grants is to fulfill their obligation to donate at least five percent of their assets each year. If private foundations do not meet this requirement, they lose their tax exemptions.

It may seem that receiving a grant from governments or private foundations would be akin to finding a needle in a haystack. That’s another misconception.

There are around 1,000, $500 grants offered by the government alone, with many available grant funds in the billion dollar range. Even more appealing than the total dollar amount is that all grants are non-taxable.

Individuals are not the only beneficiaries of grants. Small businesses also may apply for and receive these grants for many purposes, including inception and expansion.

There are many categories of people that qualify for grants based on their status as minorities. For example, Native Americans, and those of Hispanic and Asian descent, have their own categories of grants.

An especially appealing category of grants for those working from home is the one for single mothers with children. Many single parents are in desperate need of additional funds but cannot take on a second job due to responsibilities revolving around their children.

Writing grants from home is beneficial because it is both financially rewarding and flexible. Grant writing can be done at any time of day or night and can be spread out over as many sessions as necessary.

If you are interested in grant writing as a work-at-home opportunity, there are many web sites devoted to assisting you that can start you on the path to increased financial success.

Grant writing is becoming more and more popular as time goes on. So, if you are planning to start a careet in grant writing, it would be wise to do so in a timely fashion. Grant writing has many benefits and can help most families increase their financial worth.

Government Grants Help Senior Citizens with New Careers

Being a senior citizen is not easy, especially in a fast-paced culture such as the United States. Elderly people find more time to do lots of things. Unfortunately, most other people they want to do these things with are either busy or working. At least, there’s a pension they can use to enjoy their golden years – and maybe even a hefty savings.

But what happens if by some circumstance the elderly person does not have a pension, or enough social security, or if he or she is in dire financial straights without savings to cushion the blow. Being less mobile and incapable of the backbreaking work needed to dig themselves out of this financial rut, they find themselves pretty helpless and financially vulnerable. Guaranteed US Government Grant for USA Citizens at http://www.trustedreviews.info/money/usm/index.html

The federal government puts great importance in taking care of the elderly and has created numerous programs to address their needs. Among these programs is the institution of financial grants to special projects for the elderly. These grants may include housing, medical care, and even jobs and job training especially designed for elderly citizens.

Applying for these grants does not require too much. You only have to be a taxpaying citizen of the United States and you have to meet specific requirements for application. For example, you will need to be of a certain age, income bracket, and so on to be eligible for certain grants.

There are different grants all depending on your profile. And there is no one general profile for any grant. This means that there is a grant for pretty much every need across the board among the elderly. Availing of these grants is a great way to get started on a new life, especially when a job from 9 to 5 doing office work may no longer be advisable for the elderly. Up to $25,000 to upgrade your skills as an Employee. US government grants for USA Citizens

Grants also give senior citizens a greater window of opportunity to take advantage of – which is a great service to them because opportunities dwindle the older they get. A grant may open the doors to a new skill, a new business opportunity, and extra finances for elderly working citizens and better health and home service.

Also there are grants for institutions and companies so that they may accept elderly workers (those 55 and above) and pay them competitive rates. The grants vary. Some can be applied for by companies and others are applied for by the elderly themselves.
